Expanding ER, Expanding Access, Expanding Impact

Williston has grown tremendously, from a town serving 11,000 residents when CHI St. Alexius Health Williston was built in 1974. We now serve close to 50,000 people across northwest North Dakota and eastern Montana. This growth is wonderful, but it also brings challenges, particularly in healthcare.

Our current Emergency Room (ER) was designed for a much smaller population and is now critically undersized and outdated. Despite its dedicated staff, our ER operates in a mere 2,953 square feet, with only three treatment rooms. This often means patients receive care in public hallways, compromising privacy and safety during their most vulnerable moments. This falls short of the high standard of care our community deserves, and it's understandably why many of our neighbors have sought emergency services outside of Williston.

The good news is we have a strategic, cost-effective, and immediate solution – and we need YOUR help to make it a reality for Williston.

We are thrilled to announce a "perfect new home" for our Emergency Room! Thanks to a recent $3 million renovation of our main hospital's large surgical uite, which reopened in 2024, all surgical services have been consolidated. This move allowed us to vacate our more modern Outpatient Surgery Center (built in 2014) and transform it into a spacious, state-of-the-art ER. This beautiful facility will provide ample space, including much-needed infusion and trauma rooms, and specialized areas for behavioral health. This isn't just an upgrade; it's a vital step to enhance patient privacy, improve safety, and restore community trust in their local hospital. Most importantly, it will significantly boost our capacity to care for Williston and the surrounding region.

This ambitious project will be entirely funded by our local Foundation and the generosity of community members like you. We've already secured over $300,000, but there's more to be done, the cost of this project is estimated at $4 million. We invite you to be a part of this critical project.
