High Definition Healing:
Advancing Radiation Treatment Technology and
Digital Imaging
Dear Friend,
In Williston, we cherish our community and the well-being of our neighbors. When facing a cancer diagnosis, local care means everything – the comfort of home, the support of family and friends, and the familiar faces of trusted medical professionals. However, to truly provide comprehensive, cutting-edge cancer treatment right here in Williston, our Oncology Department has a critical need for advanced technology.
Our Linear Accelerator is approaching end of life. If it is not replaced by 2028 we will no longer be able to treat cancer with radiation. Our patients, already burdened by a cancer diagnosis, would then have to travel significant distances to Bismarck or beyond to access essential radiation therapy. This travel adds immense physical, emotional, and financial strain during an extremely challenging time. We believe our community's cancer patients deserve the very best treatment options, close to home.
We are launching a vital campaign to equip our Oncology Department with two revolutionary pieces of equipment:
- A new Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine: This state-of-the-art technology is the cornerstone of modern radiation therapy, delivering highly precise radiation to cancerous tumors while sparing healthy tissue. It offers faster, more effective treatments, with fewer side effects, directly where our patients need it most.
- A Bariatric PET/CT Scanner: This advanced imaging device combines the functional information of a PET scan with the anatomical detail of a CT scan, providing unparalleled accuracy in detecting, staging, and monitoring cancer. Crucially, a bariatric model ensures accessibility for all patients, regardless of their body size, preventing the need for difficult and often delayed travel for specialized scans. Currently barractic patients must travel to the Mayo Clinic. By acquiring this piece of equipment will also allow us to have PET/CT scanner onsite so our patients have access to the highest quality digital imaging everyday.
Acquiring these two machines means our patients can receive their complete course of radiation therapy and essential diagnostic imaging right here in Williston. It means less travel, more time with loved ones, and unparalleled precision in their fight against cancer. This is not just an upgrade; it’s an investment in a local center of excellence for cancer care, transforming every aspect of a patient's journey.
This ambitious project is entirely funded by our local Foundation and the generosity of community members like you. Your support will directly impact the lives of countless individuals and families facing cancer, offering them renewed hope and the very best chance at recovery, all close to home.
