Celebrating Our Scholarship Recipients

Check to Michael CruzThanks to generous support from our colleagues and our community, the St. Mary-Corwin Health Foundation Scholarship Program disbursed $24,000 in scholarship funds earlier this year—helping our employees advance their careers and improve the care of our patients. In September, we celebrated four team members who each received a portion of these funds to support their academic endeavors.

Congratulations to each of the hardworking employees below:

  • Michael Cruz, Michael Vislosky Scholar
  • Elizabeth Dunlap, Louise Anita Evans Romero Scholar
  • Angelina (Angel) Hurne, SMC Scholar
  • Nicole (Nikki) Romero, SMC Scholar

This is a competitive program with scholarships ranging up to $20,000.  Enrollment is limited exclusively to St. Mary-Corwin Hospital employed associates pursuing a clinically focused degree or certification that aligns with the hiring needs of the hospital. Eligibility requirements must be met.  Two specific scholarships include:

Michael Vislosky Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship fund was established by the family of Michael Vislosky, in honor of his distinguished nursing career.  Mike worked in the areas of critical care, neuroscience, and nursing education at St. Mary-Corwin prior to his death.  Donations to this fund support scholarships for St. Mary-Corwin associates to further their nursing education.

Louise Anita Evans Romero Nursing Scholarship

This scholarship was established in memory of Louise Romero. The created by her husband, Ernest Romero, recognizes deserving nurses to be able to pursue the same excellence Louise Romero strived towards during her life.  The purpose of the scholarship is to assist St. Mary-Corwin nurses pursuing advanced education in nursing studies.

When we invest in our care teams, we ensure that our community continues receiving high-quality, compassionate care—now and in the future. You are welcome to support the future of our health care heroes and our community by making a gift.
