Yankton Benedictine Sisters Fund Grantees - 2023
Continuing the Legacy of the Yankton Benedictine Sisters
On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, our Foundation was honored to present this year’s Yankton Benedictine Sisters Fund Grant Awards to 18 deserving recipients.
Each year, our Foundation offers community organizations an opportunity to apply for a grant from the Yankton Benedictine Sisters Fund, a unique program within Centura Health. The Fund began in 2004 when the Benedictine Sisters left a generous $1 million gift to the St. Thomas More Hospital Foundation to continue their legacy and benefit our Fremont County community.
The Benedictine Sisters of Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton, South Dakota helped build our hospital in Cañon City more than 82 years ago, as part of their mission to care for the sick and nurture the health of the most vulnerable. They transferred sponsorship of the hospital to the Sisters of Charity in 1994; and the last Benedictine Sisters returned to their home in 2004, after sharing their most generous gift.
