Roy Cook, Philanthropist of the Year Award

Mercy Hospital Foundation was recently recognized with a CommonSpirit Health Philanthropy Award. Over 80 Foundations Nationwide come together for the annual Philanthropy Summit each February. At this event a set of awards are given which recognize outstanding achievement. More than 50 donors were nominated for the “Philanthropist of the Year” award from Foundations across the country in the CommonSpirit network. Roy Cook, who seeded the Music Therapy Program at Hospice was recognized with the Philanthropist of the Year award.

This award celebrates an individual, family or organization who has given of their time, resources, efforts, recruitment, and advocacy to support their foundation in a meaningful way over a sustained period. At Mercy Hospital’s hospice house, Roy and his friend Laura Yale, gifted funds to start a music therapy program to benefit patients and their families and staff.
