Wilz Symposium 2023

Wilz Trauma Educational Symposium

We are united by the belief that when we exchange ideas and share our expertise, our patients and communities are healthier and better prepared to understand and heal from trauma.

- Mike Cafasso, CEO, SMCH

Dr. William “Bill” Wilz - 1956-1999

The Wilz Trauma Symposium was started over twenty years ago by the medical staff at St. Mary-Corwin to honor Dr. Bill Wilz who served as the Trauma Director for St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center until his death in 1999. He received his undergraduate degree at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and attended medical school at Georgetown University, where he graduated in the top ten percent of his class. He completed his residency in General Surgery at Keesler A.F.B. in Biloxi, Mississippi and was the Chief of Surgery at U.S.A.F. Hospital at Sheppard A.F.B. in Wichita Falls, Texas until he moved to Pueblo, Colorado and opened a practice in General Surgery. Dr. Wilz is remembered fondly as a teacher, colleague, and friend.

This fund supports the Trauma program at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital and helps bring care givers and first responders together for a gathering united by the belief that when we exchange ideas and share our expertise, our patients and communities are healthier and better prepared to understand and heal from trauma.
